Auton Empowers Its Employees to Improve Processes
VALENCIA, CA – May 17, 2007 – Auton Motorized Systems continually strives to be at the forefront of the automated audio visual lift systems industry. Essential to attaining these goals are Auton’s most valuable asset – its 22 employees. All Auton employees are empowered to make decisions and take action. They are also given the opportunity for upward mobility within the company through numerous education and training programs. Turnover is extremely low - many employees have tenure of 10 or more years and Auton’s employees almost never miss a day of work. Auton’s high employee morale translates into highly skilled, precision manufacturing and the best quality products.
Joe Hernandez has worked for Auton Motorized Systems for nearly fourteen years. He first started there as an assistant to the plant manager. After completing a bachelor’s degree in electronics from ITT in Van Nuys, his career at Auton really took off. With his electronics expertise, Joe began making significant improvements in the manufacturing process by modifying wiring and components. These modifications resulted in a decrease in the number of parts used and ultimately, increased reliability. “Auton offers me the technical freedom to use my knowledge to modify processes on the shop floor,” says Joe. Joe most enjoys the electronic side of his job. Using his technical expertise, he has redesigned control boxes to customer specifications in circumstances where products were incompatible with the operating system.
For the past three years, Joe’s technical expertise has translated into more involvement with the sales function at Auton. His participation began with the sales staff asking him to help trouble shoot customer problems. Today, his job function is balanced equally between sales and the technical aspects of the manufacturing process. “I really enjoy doing something different every day,” states Joe. “And I feel good when I can solve a customer problem with a simple solution,” he says. Participating in sales helps him build relationships with customers, which in turn, builds loyalty to Auton products. Joe recently attended a trade show seminar where he learned the importance of maintaining customer relationships. “We cannot sit idle wishing our customers will stop by our booth at a trade show, we must invite them to visit us,” he says.
